  • The Festival is open for pianists worldwide without age limit.

Application Information

  • Deadline for Category A & B: December 1st, GMT -5 24:00, 2018.
  • Deadline for ​Passive Auditor: December 31st, GMT -5 24:00, 2018.
  • Application Method: Online Application only
  • Students can choose to apply to different categories which offer different course selection.
  • Students in different categories have different requirement to fulfill. There will be 36 students accepted in the category A and 60 students accepted in the category B. The final result will be announced no later than December 15th 2018.
  • Students who are not accepted in category A will be considered for category B directly, with no additional application fee.
  • Please refer to the detailed section in category A and B for detailed requirement information.
  • Passive auditors can also apply here to participate in the entire festival, however there will be an additional fee to attend to the lectures.

  • Students in category A will receive 6 lessons; each lesson will be 45 minutes. Among them 4 lessons will be taught by international distinguished faculty or the artistic director, 2 lessons will be taught by Taiwanese faculty.
  • Applicants for category A must include their 4 most preferred teachers from the international distinguished faculty. We guarantee that accepted students will receive lessons from at least 2 of their preferred teachers. If you include less than 4 preferred teachers, this guarantee does not stand. Arrangement of the faculty will be decided by the ranking of the students’ video performances.
  • Students in the category A has to submit online video links of their performance in the application form to be qualified in the category. The online video should consists of at least 2 pieces in different styles and with the length of 15-25 minutes.
  • Students in the category A will be performing in the Promising Star Concerts with the free program not exceeding 15 minutes of length.
  • Students’ performances in the Promising Star Concerts may be considered as their entry into the Star Concert Pianist Competition. The winner of this competition will be given the opportunity to perform a concerto with an orchestra.
  • This competition is only eligible for category A students.
  • Students born before January 1, 1984 will be INELIGIBLE for the Star Concert Pianist Competition, but must still perform in the Promising Star Concerts.
  • Students in the category A has the option to choose whether to participate the Star Concert Pianist Competition in the application form. Winners of the previous 2 Star Concert Pianist Competitions are NOT eligible for this year’s competition.
  • ​Students in category A may audit all lessons & lectures freely. They will also be granted one free ticket to each of the All- Star Faculty Concert I & II.
  • Students in the category A will be provided 3 hours of practice time daily.
  • All students are invited to join our opening and closing ceremony.
  • Students in category B will receive 6 lessons; each lesson will be 45 minutes. 3 lessons will be taught by international distinguished faculty or the artistic director. 3 lessons will be taught by Taiwan Star faculty.
  • Students in the category B has to submit online video links of their performance in the application form to be qualified in the category. The online video repertoire is free of choice with the length of 5-25 minutes.
  • The festival will arrange a concert opportunity for students accepted into category B, but participation is optional. (More information will be announced on the festival site at a later date.)
  • Students in the category B can audit all lessons & lectures freely. They will also be granted one free ticket to each of the All- Star Faculty Concert I & II.
  • Students in the category B will be provided 3 hours of practice time daily.
  • All students are invited to join our opening and closing ceremony.

Application Requirement

  • Students applying for category A have to include online video links of their performance in the application form. The online video should consist of at least 2 pieces in different styles with a length of 15-25 minutes.
  • Students applying for category B have to include online video links of their performance in the application form. The online video repertoire is free of choice with a length of 5-25 minutes.
  • ​​Only piano solo pieces will be accepted; please do not upload concerto performances or performances in forms other then piano solo.
  • Performances submitted in the video must be uncut and may not be edited. The performer’s hands and body’s entire right side must be clearly visible.
  • All information provided on the application form must be true, complete and accurate. If any information is found to be false, the applicant will be disqualified.

Application Result

  • The accepted applicants for the 2019 festival will be notified no later than December 15th, 2018 on our website.
  • There will be 36 students accepted in the Category A and 60 students accepted in the Category B.
  • All applicants will be notified of their results through email.

Passive Auditor

  • Full-time passive auditors must pay a one-time tuition fee of 15,000 NTD, and will receive passes to all the activities during the festival, except for individual lessons guiding and lectures.
  • Full-time passive auditors will also receive one free ticket to each of the All- Star Faculty Concert I & II.
  • If you do not wish to register as a full-time passive auditor, you may still purchase daily passes to audit lessons at the festival site (The Music Education Building at The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University).
  • The fee of the daily passes will be announced on the website at a later date.
  • Passive auditors can sign up through the online application here.

Board and Lodging

The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University is located at the City Centre of Taipei, next to the beautiful Daan Park, and the elegant urbane Xin-Yi district. It offers vibrant and convenient choices of restaurants within walking distance. Students will be on their own with the meals.

For an additional fee, students may request housing accommodation for the duration of the festival. Housing will be comfortable and in a hotel next to the campus site. Students must let us know how many people will be accompanying him/her by filling the exact amount in the application form.

​Students age 14 and under who request housing accommodation must be accompanied by an adult for the entire duration of the festival, the adult will be responsible for their own accommodation fee.
